The month of Ashwin starts with nine days of devotion to the nine forms of Mother Durga. The celebration of the festival of Dussehra is on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of the Ashwin month. This day is known as Vijayadashmi because on this day Maryada Purushottam Lord Shri Ram had conquered Lankesh Ravana.
There is an old tradition of burning the effigy(figure) of Ravana. To symbolize good over evil. Along with this, Shastra (weapon) worship also has great importance on this day.
Dussehra and it’s auspicious time
The month of Ashwin starts with Navratri. After nine days of worshiping nine forms of the mother god Durga. Dussehra comes on the date of Dashami. This year i.e. in the year 2021, Dussehra is on 15 October (today). The date of Dashami has started from 6.52 pm on 14 October, which will remain till 6.02 pm on the second day i.e. today. During this, the time between 2.02 to 2.48 pm is an auspicious time for worship.

What is the worship method?
- Wake up early in the morning, bathing, and wearing clean or new clothes
- The idol of Dussehra is made from wheat or lime.
- Make nine balls and two bowls from cow dung.
- Take coins in one bowl and in another bowl with roli, rice, barley, and fruits.
- Banana, barley, jaggery, and radish are the offerings to the idol.
- Offer these items to the worshiping things like books, weapons, vehicles, etc.
- Give donations and Dakshina according to your ability. Provide food to the poor.
- Give the leaves of the Shami tree, also known as Sona Patti, to your family members after burning Ravana.
- Get blessings from elders.
